Overview

Nioh 3 builds upon the fast, technical combat system that defines the series. The gameplay retains its Soulslike foundation while introducing refinements for deeper customization and expanded player expression.

Combat System

Combat emphasizes precision timing, high-risk/high-reward encounters, and aggressive yet strategic playstyles. Players must master movement, blocking, dodging, and counterattacks to survive relentless bosses.

Ki Management

Ki (stamina) is the central mechanic. Key features include:

• Ki Pulse: Techniques to recover stamina instantly.
• Enemy Ki Depletion: Creating openings for powerful grapple attacks.
• Yokai Integration: Advanced Ki interactions tied to Yokai abilities.

Stance System

The iconic three-stance system returns:

• High Stance: High damage, high Ki cost.
• Mid Stance: Balanced offense and defense.
• Low Stance: Fast, evasive combat with low Ki cost.

Yokai Mechanics

Yokai abilities play an even greater role. Mechanics include Yokai skills activated during combat, temporary transformations, and synergy between guardian spirits and weapon types.

Progression & Loot

The series’ signature loot system returns with randomized weapon drops, rarity tiers, and set bonuses. Character progression offers deep stat customization and extensive skill trees per weapon.
