Nioh 3 introduces a new cast of characters inspired by Japanese history and mythology. Characters blend real historical figures with supernatural interpretations.

Protagonist

The protagonist is a new original character with customizable appearance and hybrid human–Yokai abilities. Their journey centers on uncovering the growing Yokai influence.

Historical Figures

Following tradition, the game features legendary commanders, warlords, and swordsmen reimagined within a dark fantasy context. These figures serve as allies, rivals, or bosses in the Story.

Guardian Spirits

Guardian spirits return to grant passive bonuses and unlock Yokai abilities. Each spirit is inspired by mythological creatures and influences the protagonist’s combat style.

Supporting Cast

• Blacksmiths: Provide equipment upgrades and crafting.
• Spirit Guides: Offer narrative context and lore hints.
• Antagonists: Powerful Yokai leaders and corrupted warlords manipulating events from the shadows.
